Top 5 3D Animation Trends for Businesses to Watch Out in 2022

The world is in a constant state of flux – nothing is permanent. What was new yesterday has already found an improved version today. Yet, in a delicious irony, the human mind is prone to resist change, often comfortable in the status quo. When a bank introduces a new interface for net banking services, it causes irritation to most users, but often it goes beyond the cosmetic and actually introduces new features besides plugging bugs causing safety issues. 3D animation is similarly affected with the rapid evolution of technology and software, and is even more frequently upgraded and improved.

Top 5 3D Animation Trends for Businesses

Improved design software gives the creators more artistic leeway to experiment with new techniques, which results in a much better visual experience. So what are the top 3d animation trends for businesses in 2022? Here is a look at the most recent trends.

1. Hyper-Realistic CGI

CGI or computer generated imagery – also called 3D imaging or 3D Rendering – is used to create animated visual content with computer software. The content can be characters, stills, scenes and other special effects that originally started with movies but are now widely used in advertising, architecture, engineering and virtual reality. What began in a very small way in the 1950s has now reached near perfection with hyper-realistic CGI, where it becomes very difficult to separate the real from the virtual. 3D animations with hyper-realistic CGI is a lengthy and can be expensive process needing highly sophisticated equipment and a large number of people of different specializations working together on a single project. The evolution of technology is making it affordable to an extent, but the stunning results delivered makes it worth the effort.

2. VR Animation

VR animation or animation based on Virtual Reality is getting quite popular in 3D industrial animation. VR animation started as entertainment with the gaming industry and later was adopted by the real estate and education segments. Unlike augmented reality (AR) which uses CGI on real world images to create composite imagery, VR is computer-generated simulation of a 3D environment that the user can interact with. This is now used to create VR animation by using one of many types of software or apps for animation that are available today. VR is very adaptable for animation, with the added flexibility of using various methods of animation for creating cartoons, photo-like graphic images, live action, or a combination of different themes. The process is relatively simple and easy, which has made it popular, especially for creating awareness and brand promotion.

3. Industrial Animation/Technical Animation

Industrial animation, also known as technical animation, is the process of creating animation of an industrial product or machinery to show its working mechanism or movements of parts. The purpose is to show the function and explain the details of how it works, and its applications, etc. For automobile applications, it can show the working of the engine or gearbox. Industrial animation is very useful for companies thanks to its many applications. It can serve the purpose of the marketing and sales teams for product demonstrations and applications in specific industrial environments even before any physical meeting. The customers get to know the product better before proceeding further. These industrial animations also have other uses like employee training and maintenance personnel to better understand the product than what is possible by referring manuals.

4. Psychedelic Worlds

Psychedelic Worlds in animation refers to the influence of the counter-culture movement of the 1960s that expressed itself in kitschy art, surreal visuals, bright colours, etc. It was characteristic of that period for artists to experiment with psychedelic drugs and create garish art, often rebelling against society and politics. Psychedelic worlds may not appeal to everyone, but this style of animation is preferred by the music or apparel industry to appeal to the young, funky generation. It may even be suitable in certain engineering applications like lighting equipment for the entertainment industry or even the automobile industry. Psychedelic animation can transform simple graphics into retro artworks or even futuristic designs, appealing to certain audiences and that could be a large market. It makes use of various types of photoshopping software to create bright, snazzy visuals.

5. Liquid Motion

Liquid Motion is a type of animation that is very popular in the advertising world. The animation here involves organic shapes that are very fluid, liquid-like melding easily into different forms, of forming new shapes in rapid succession or converting letters into characters, geometric shapes into mechanical objects, etc. It can be put to clever use of transforming a roaring cheetah into a motorbike as was done by a popular two-wheeler brand a few years ago. With the proliferation of social media channels, liquid motion gas has become highly popular and can be effectively used for engineering animations by a creative team.

Utilizing Industry-Focused Animation for the Win

Animation videos are playing an important role in business promotion in the digital era. The average consumer is today accessing information on a mobile device and most are using different social media platforms for news and entertainment. It makes eminent sense to use animation videos to grab attention and keep the audience engaged for effective communication of business information. There are many types of 3D animations and different techniques to make these videos. One must however remember that though the medium is common, different business segments have specific requirements so a given type and technique may not be suitable for all. Talking of industry focused animation, there must be a clear idea about the purpose as well as the audience for which the particular video is to be made. Once this is clear, the rest is easy.
